With a mix of invention and conviction, this penthouse apartment illustrates
Downsizing from a larger home, our client needed to prioritize space and storage but his love for food and entertaining also required plenty of room for character and personality. Taking onboard our client’s lifestyle, we set about creating a living space that delivered an orientation in line with cooking and culinary needs. With slanted ceilings, creating a minimalist aesthetic with maximum storage in mind can often prove challenging in itself. And to combat this, taking a systematic approach, the storage was integrated into the architecture of the space to give a truly open feel to this rooftop location. A secret door now opens to a hidden utility space and bench storage in the eaves provides even more storage options and further seating for hosting and entertaining.
The materials and colours used bring this apartment to a new level. With a simple, elegant palate, the cabinets were kept in bulthaup signature white with a matt grey composite worktop. A solid oak floor continues right through the hall into the kitchen, and is also used as a bench-top for a storage and seating area just below the sloped ceiling. The addition of Gaggenau appliances gives a professional-cooking vibe to the home, meeting the client’s culinary needs.
